Geoffrey Hinton

Faculty

Geoff is interested in ways of getting deep neural networks to learn good representations for objects, sounds, and strings of words. He splits his time between Google and the University of Toronto and spends a few months each year in Mountain View.

Ruslan Salakhutdinov

Faculty

Dr. Salakhutdinov's primary interests lie in statistical machine learning, deep learning, probabilistic graphical models, and large-scale optimization. He is the recipient of the Early Researcher Award, Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellowship, and is a Fellow of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research.

Roger Grosse

Postdoctoral Fellow

Roger’s research focuses on representation learning, Bayesian methods, sampling algorithms, and model selection. He is especially interested in automatically designing structured statistical models. He is also a co-creator of Metacademy, a sort of “package manager for knowledge.

Charlie Tang

PhD Student

Charlie's research interests include machine learning, computer vision and cognitive science. Specifically, he has developed various generative models in deep learning for vision. Charlie also regularly competes in Kaggle competitions and is a Canadian national chessmaster.

Nitish Srivastava

PhD Student

Nitish is interested in using statistical machine learning to create representations that can help solve computer vision. He is working on object detection and action recognition. He is also interested in combining multiple data modalities and developing new ways of regularizing neural networks.

Ryan Kiros

PhD Student

Ryan's research interests are in Statistical Machine Learning, Computer Vision and Natural Language Processing.

George Dahl

PhD Student

George's primary research interest is in models that learn many levels of rich, distributed representations from large quantities of perceptual and linguistic data. He enjoys using neural nets to solve problems of practical importance in many disparate domains such as drug discovery, speech recognition, and natural language processing.
